For most employers making sure their workforce is happy and comfortable in their environment is important. Not every business has the luxury of purpose built premises and a riverside location with country views, but there are fundamental steps that can be taken to make sure your office is a pleasant place to work.
One of the easiest measures to take is to ensure the windows and offices are kept clean. Making sure you have a regular window cleaning programme will allow more natural light into the building and naturally lift people’s mood, making them feel better about their workplace. Apex Office Cleaning offer a complete package to business in the Ealing area covering window, carpet and floor cleaning on a regular or ad hoc basis.

The Cleaning product company Vileda has recently launched an innovative new product that makes cleaning difficult to access places easier.

The new ‘MultiDuster’ has been designed so that it can be bent into hundreds of different positions. Traditional cleaning tools that are malleable tend to be constructed of wire and can be difficult to clean and can hold on to harmful bacteria. Overtime they also lose their ability to be moulded into shape.

The MultiDuster is constructed from numerous easy to clean plastic sections, these can be fitted together and fashioned so that it can be used to clean a wealth of different situations. It is particularly useful in areas where cleanliness is essential such as healthcare.

The MultiDuster has a telescopic handle which can be extended up to 5 metres allowing high up areas to be cleaned without the use of steps or scaffolding. The product comes in two sizes, Maxi and Mini and will easily fit behind radiators and between glass partitions. For a quotation on your commercial cleaning in Feltham , call Apex today.

Government starts a campaign to tackle illegal workers
The Home Office has started a campaign to root out illegal working in the cleaning industry, immigration enforcement officers carried out many operations in the sector, targeting those who employ illegal migrant workers.
The previous week, the Home Office hosted a meeting with leaders from the cleaning industry to discuss plans to end illegal working in the sector. The British Cleaning Council chairman, Simon Hollingbery, said: “We fully support this campaign, and have been working with the Home Office Immigration Enforcement team for a number of months. Rogue cleaning contractors have no place in the cleaning industry. They take on illegal migrants purposely to undercut genuine, law abiding firms. By doing so they break all health and safety rules, and work the illegal migrants for long hours on pitifully low pay. The vast majority of cleaning contractors will welcome this latest move and we have invited members of the immigration team to speak at the Manchester Cleaning Show in April."

Cleaning staff have access to many different premises, so Right to Work checks is necessary in maintaining the highest levels of security. Employers can face heavy fines for employing illegal workers, up to £20,000 for each illegal worker employed.

The British Cleaning Council congratulated the British Toilet Association on the launch of a new app that indicates the location of over 780 toilets across the UK.
In 2013 the BCC had made a grant of £10,000 to enable the BTA to develop the application in conjunction with Mencap and Pamis (Profound and Multiple Impairment Service) so that those affected by Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties, their families and carers are able to find suitable public toilets.
The interactive map which can be used on smart phones, tablets and PCs will not only indicate the exact location of the facility but will expand the information giving detailed information of any extra facilities, access and opening and closing times.
The British Toilet Association (BTA) has chosen World Toilet Day (November 19th) to launch its interactive toilet map; a state-of-the-art app that can be used on mobile phones, tablets and PCs. It is hoped that more funding will become available to allow the app to be developed further to encompass more features and public facilities. Keep your staff healthy
The majority of people work better if their working environment is clean and tidy.
Not only does it encourage order and cleanliness it sets the tone for your entire organisation. Staff prefer to work in a pleasant, clean environment and this will be reflected in their appearance and their attitude.
There are many benefits to be gained from establishing a regular cleaning regime not least a reduction in the amount of sickness. Keyboards, computer mice and telephones are all known to harbour bacteria and germs up to 25,127 microbes per square inch! The average toilet seat contains around 49 microbes per square inch.

A sticky problem
London Gatwick Airport has recently commissioned CleanSafe Services to clean its terminal walkways of thousands of pieces of chewing gum. Using a specialist ‘melt and blast’ technology the company cleaned and estimated 120,000 pieces of chewing gum from 30,000 square feet! Chewing gum remains one of the biggest cleaning challenges facing any organisation managing public access spaces and is almost impossible to remove using traditional methods. The technique used involved rapidly heating the chewing gum and then removing with a 1250 pounds per square inch jet of water.

New Technology Offers Hope in Fight against Cross Contamination in Hospitals
The new product developed by Filmop and launched by Jigsaw Cleaning Systems, the Equodose system, is primed to drastically reduce the risk of cross contamination in hospitals as well as limiting the wastage of cleaning products and water.
The system is a mechanical dosing mechanism which soaks a mop with the precise amount of cleaning solution and water that is required. It is adjustable, meaning that exactly the right amount of water and product can be added to the mop; depending on the mop type, the level of dirtiness and the type of surface that is being cleaned. Mops will no longer need to be pre-soaked which in turn cuts wastage.
“We’re excited to be working with Filmop and we think the introduction of Equodose into healthcare environments will have huge benefits in terms of infection control and reducing costs”, said Brian Boll, Systems Director at Jigsaw Cleaning Systems.
Infection and cross contamination is a big problem in any healthcare environment and the key to avoiding these problems is hygiene. The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) reported that one patient in 16 in NHS hospitals are picking up infections. By using the new Equodose system, the risk of cross contamination is greatly reduced as the mops are colour coded to reflect health and safety guidelines and legislation.
In addition to the colour coded mops, scrubbing mops are also available for non-slip floors. They are made from micro-fibre, and are double-sided, 40cm flat mops. This system means that the same mop will not need to be used in different rooms, cutting dramatically the risk of cross contamination. Mops can be prepared by operatives on site at demand meaning optimum product use for the best effect.
As Brian Boll explains, “the accurate dosing feature means facilities staff will never use more water or solution than is required, and mops can be prepared quickly and easily and transported using the trolley. This means there is no need to pre-prepare mops, eliminating waste and the unnecessary washing of unused mops.” This cost saving aspect will be greatly welcomed by the Tax Payers’ Alliance who has accused the NHS of wasting £41.4m of water in 2012-13. It is not only the NHS however who will benefit from the Equodose system; it is available for any cleaning businesses to buy.
Filmop’s company motto is ‘Love clean, be green’ and the Equodose system is exactly this. By significantly reducing wastage of water, energy and cleaning products, money is saved and environmental effects reduced, which can only be a good thing.

2014 is looking bright for commercial cleaning firms in London.

A recent poll suggests that confidence is sweeping back into the UK Commercial Cleaning industry with the latest figures showing that just under half of all firms are increasing turnover & improving profits. A recent report shows over 40 firms in the UK that are delivering growth rates of nearly 8%, their market share jumping from 9% to 11% in just two years, other results from market research company ‘Plimsoll’ revealled:

* 40 firms have seen their sales increase by over 8%
* These 40 firms now sell on average £11 million per year up from £7 million two years ago
* Of the 786 firms analysed, the average sales increase is only 4.8%
* However, only 388 companies have increased their sales

"It really is essential that businesses look for areas of growth in the market and see how they can keep up with the leaders," says David Pattison, Plimsoll's senior analyst. "These 40 trailblazing firms are heading-up the new direction of the market and the other companies must take notice of those 40. With salaries up and gross margins down, it's clear as costs grow then sales need to increase to pay for it."
